ANC on the 2014 National And Provincial Election Results

Fellow residents, we are humbled with the overwhelming support and trust you have shown in the African National Congress by entrusting us with your vote. Thank you very much for confirming that our liberation movement is indeed delivering services and fulfilling the wishes of our masses. This election took place at a time when we celebrate 20 years of democracy and reflect on the legacies of those who spilled their blood for us to enjoy equal rights.

We have a good story to tell and we plan to write many more chapters to restore the dignity of the poor. The ultimate sacrifice of those who were killed by a brutal Apartheid government was not in vain and we will forever be indebted to them and their families.

It is evident that the hard work and effort of our volunteers, branch leaders, members and the national leaders who campaigned in Nelson Mandela Bay cannot be equaled. Your effort deserves praise and gratitude.

I am reminded of the words of the late founding father of our young democracy, Nelson Mandela, after we clinched a resounding victory in the landmark 1994 elections.

He said: “I stand before you humbled by your courage, with a heart full of love for all of you. I regard it as the highest honour to lead the ANC at this moment in our history, and that we have been chosen to lead our country into the new century”.

When we celebrate our victory, we will remain mindful of the road ahead and the challenges that we face as a governing party in Nelson Mandela Bay and the important responsibility to unite people of all races with the progressive emblem of the ANC.

Over the last twenty years, the ANC-led Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality managed to deliver houses, road and electricity infrastructure, assistance to the poor, provision of safe drinking water to our constituency.

As part of the leadership collective of the ANC Regional Committee, I commit the municipality to enhance its service delivery programme and that we will get back to business as soon as the election victory celebrations are over.

I am extremely happy that we have shown gains in areas that are generally considered strongholds of the opposition. This is a clear indication that we are appealing to a much more diverse electorate.

They agreed that we have a good story to tell as we provide services to all corners of Nelson Mandela Bay.

Allow me to conclude with another quotation of Nelson Mandela after the 1994 election results were declared.

He said: “I promise that I will do my best to be worthy of the faith and confidence you have placed in me and my organization, the African National Congress, Let us build the future together and toast a better life for all South Africans…”

Once again thank you for your overwhelming vote of confidence.
