The African National Congress will launch its centenary celebrations preparatory processes at Red Location Museum in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, on Friday, 02 September 2011 at 17:00.
The preparations for the African National Congress centennial celebrations cover a range of issues that include writing about the historical battles waged against apartheid and colonialism by freedom fighters of the region. The Eastern Cape particularly Port Elizabeth (now part of the Nelson Mandela Bay municipal area) was nationally recognised as the heartland of the African National Congress because of the many unique and critical battles waged against apartheid colonialism in this area.
The African National Congress in the Nelson Mandela region will, in its centennial celebrations, convene different generational groups from all formations including various sectors of society and other political parties.
The ANC is creating this platform to; “… enable the hunted to tell their stories of being hunted for fighting against apartheid colonialism under very difficult, trying, testing circumstances. The intention is to develop simple story telling, write books and compile documentaries that will give a true reflection of the historical role played by many in bringing about democracy in South Africa.
There are so many people who participated in the struggle against apartheid colonialism even from Media Institutions, Business, Sport, Religion, Non Governmental / Service Organisations in addition to the well known political formations. Such contributions are known and should be reflected for generations to come to learn so that brutalities and supremacy practices are never again experienced in our beloved South Africa.”
The Nelson Mandela regional launch will act as a build up to the ANC provincial launch in Queenstown.
The ANC is urging all comrades and friends to; “… participate in these efforts as centennial celebrations of this great movement belong to all the people of the region, continent and the world. The ANC is of the people. It’s founding came as a result of many efforts from different sectors of society including religious, traditional and leading from professionals.”
People interested in taking part can communicate directly with the Regional Office at 041 585 9618 or 041 585 3915.
