Spring Rose and Gardens made it an all-Eastern Province final when they produced contrasting victories in Saturday’s semifinals of the Eastern Cape Super 12 club rugby competition.

Rose delivered an outstanding performance to eclipse the challenge of defending champions East London Police, winning 31-12 to suggest they will be a major threat to Gardens in the final.

The match was well contested until halftime, when Rose led 14-12, but the home side lifted their game in the second half and eventually secured a comfortable victory.

The match at  Rosedale was far closer, with Gardens just pipping Progress to advance to the final for the third year in a row, winning 13-12.

After a 5-5 score at halftime, Gardens held the edge in the second half as Progress conceded a number of penalties and this stymied their efforts to take the honours, with last year’s runners-up edging home by the narrowest of margins.
