Aletta is Now Better and Well, Well, Well

17 January 2011 By Fullstop

Christmas came early for lucky Pier 14 shopper Aletta Kitching when she won a brand new Nissan NP200 bakkie worth over R100 000 on December 18.

It was a perfectly timed present for the 32-year-old Central housewife and her husband Johan – just one day shy of their first wedding anniversary. Neither of them owns a car.

“It’s the first time I’ve won anything and to win a car is fantastic!” said the overjoyed Kitching.

She had forgotten all about the Win-a-Car competition until a Pier 14 representative called to say that she had been selected as one of 30 finalists.

The promotion ran for three months from October to December and five finalists were selected in each of the six fortnightly draws. Entrants had to spend R100 or more at any Pier 14 store to be eligible for the competition.

On the day of the big draw, the 30 finalists assembled at 11am in front of the bakkie display and a crowd of curious shoppers gathered to watch the action.

Members of the public were randomly asked to draw the top 12 names. Excitement mounted as the dozen contestants were whittled down to six.

Each was given a wrapped box with a set of keys inside from Eastern Cape Motors. Only one held the winning key.

“When it came down to the boxes, I knew my chances were getting slim,” said Kitching.

“I was totally shocked when I opened the box and found the key. I dropped everything, I was shaking so much.”

Her win was greeted with a shower of colourful confetti, popping champagne corks and enthusiastic hugs from her fellow contestants.

Pier 14‘s Sophia Steyn said centre management was thrilled with the success of the promotion.

“The competition was our big event for the year and we received a record number of entries.”

Steyn said the shopping centre was always looking for ways to reward its loyal shoppers and that planning for the next competition was already underway.

“Shoppers can look forward to another exciting promotion with a fabulous grand prize later this year.”
