A Tasty Musical Treat from Gareth and Ulagh

In a perfect pairing of good music and fine food, lecturer of woodwind instruments at NMMU’s School of Music, Art and Design, Gareth Williams and his wife Ulagh are back with a new concept show called “Unplugged & Uncorked!” which  runs at The Barn on 24 and 25 June.

Gareth and Ulagh, along with another two featured artists, bassist Romy Brauteseth (now based in Cape Town) and Iain McLaggan (vocals) are all NMMU alumni.

Gareth currently lectures part-time at NMMU and says that the “unplugged” idea of the show was to perform songs by great songwriters (such as Ray Charles, The Beatles, Sting, Van Morrison, and Michael Buble), but has stripped them down to great lyrics and strong melodies.

The show will take place in a club setting with candlelit tables and a gourmet snack plates prepared by another NMMU graduate, celeb foodie Charl Leslie, who started his radio career in campus radio at the erstwhile UPE.

TwoTone Music directors Gareth and Ulagh have been producing various shows in the Bay. Ulagh will be anchoring the show as musical director (on piano and vocals), accompanied by Romy Brauteseth on bass and flanked by TwoTone veteran vocalist Iain McLaggan.

Seating is restaurant style and unreserved. Tickets can be pre-booked by calling Ulagh on (041) 582 4239 or 083 627 4686. No tickets will be sold at the door and seats are limited.  Tickets cost R150 and include a plate of Charl’s gourmet nibbles as well as a welcome drink. Bookings close at noon on 23 June.
