5 Major Reasons Why YOUR Press Releases are NOT Published

As a ‘jobbing journalist’ I receive many press releases via e-mail.

What follows are five major reasons why those press releases are never published.

REASONS why Your Press Release hits the BIN!

  1. Submitting as a FARGING PDF – when last did we see a printed newspaper?
  2. NOT Providing a PLAIN TEXT version in your e-mail – the journalistic secret weapon is “ctrl A, ctrl C, ctrl V” (heard of DOS yet?)
  3. Too many EMOTIVE Words – the refuge of the advertiser
  4. Submitting as a .jpg – the 1980’s called they would like your MacPaint back!
  5. Demanding a HYPERLINK back – that is like going straight to procreation and missing out on the dating and kissing first.

Make sure that your press release is 5 T’s:

  1. Timeous – don’t wait a month to comment on Christmas
  2. Topical – It is Easter, Father Christmas is so last year
  3. Targeted – Don’t submit Easter Stories to an adult publication
  4. Teeny – the soul of brevity sparks independent investigation
  5. Tenable – if you are not believable you are dead in the water!
