Liza Kingston (nee Bright) wins Round 3 and the overall Series Senior ladies title at Port St Francis last Friday

Port Elizabeth triathlete, Liza Kingston, won her 4th consecutive overall About IT Triathlon Summer Series title on Friday morning when she convincingly won the Port St Francis leg of the triathlon Series, having led from start to finish. Since 2010, Kingston has dominated the annual December 3-race Series having won all but 1 of the last 12 Series races in which she has taken part over the past 4 years, winning Friday’s finale in a fast 1 hour 18 minutes from UK based Jade Hooke and fellow Port Elizabeth triathlete Sally Waterworth with Australian based triathlete and fellow 32GI sponsored team-mate Natalie Britz in 4th place.

The traditional Boxing Day triathlon at Port St Francis attracted just under 250 participants from around the country in a sprint distance triathlon between the scenic St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis which saw SA elite triathlete Clinton Gravett of East London claiming his second win of the Series in a time of 1 hour 5 minutes from fellow border triathlete Nathan Le Roux with Jeffrey Bay triathlete Paul Du Plessis taking the bronze placing. The strong Isuzu team comprising of former SA swimmer and surf lifesaver Kevin Richards, world Ironman age group champion Alec Riddle and his equally talented son Jamie, comfortably won the team category in a time of 1 hour 5 minutes. Pamela Bowren of St Francis teamed up with Tony and Charles Butler to take second place in the team category just ahead of the Billson trio of Carmel, Natalie and dad Patrick.

Gravett claimed the overall Senior age group title from Gawie Henning and Michael Kingston whilst Le Roux, for the 2nd year running, won the Junior overall title from Keegan Cooke and Munro Ferreira. In the ladies division, Kingston won from Jade Hooke with Amore Strauss taking 3rd place whilst Shannon Bradford won the junior ladies overall title.

The 2014 About IT Triathlon Summer Series was made possible through the naming sponsorship of About IT with the support of hydration partner 32GI, logistics partner Dynamic Express Services, branding partner iStream and was fueled by Caltex. Full results from all 3 rounds of the Series are available on the website www.trisummerseries.co.za.
