24 Units on 1952 Square Metres of Land

23 June 2013 By Port Elizabethan

Hi Alan,

With regards to the ERF 8 Mount Pleasant matter on your MyPE page I would like to remain anonymous.

Here is feedback on this matter as at 21 June 2013:

The original letter/notification calling for objections re the rezoning of Erf 8 was sent to selective residents by registered snail mail October 2011, for objection by November 2011.

Certain residents in very close proximity to Erf 8 did not receive the initial objection letter, where others even further away did receive the letters. This is a fundamental flaw in the process.

All “objectioners” will receive a letter from Ms Allie at the Land Planning & Management office today, 21st June.

In short, it reads: “Kindly note that the matter was advertised for objections in the local newspapers on 16 September 2011 and the closing date to submit objections was on or before 3 October 2011. Your objection can therefore not be considered”.

There were FOUR original objectors, and TWO of them live immediately adjacent to ERF 8. Their objections were ignored, another fundamental flaw, no consideration whatsoever given to the objections, infrastructure requirements, risks, etc. The 99 page objection document was hand delivered to the Mayor’s office last week. It has been put onto the agenda for the Mayoral meeting. The meeting scheduled for week ending 21st June was postponed. It is on the agenda and hopefully will be tabled at the next meeting.

The matter is in good hands via the DA office, with the DA Councillor responsible for land matters. There were in all 55 objections, every one which was emailed to Stanford Slabbert was included in the 99 page document. All is not lost, if the Mayoral application fails, the next step will be an application to Bisho for further appeal.

Regards

Editor: See a copy of the above letter above that was sent to the latest round of residents that objected to the rezoning of ERF 8 Mount Pleasant on which the owner proposes building 24 units on the erf which is 1952 square metres in size – 81.33 square metres of land per unit if all built on level ground!
