Thousands of Ford Motor Company employees from around the globe set aside time to help create a better world from the 10 to 18 September. More than 247 employees of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) joined together for the sixth annual Ford Global Week of Caring.
Volunteers from both the Silverton Plant in Pretoria and the Struandale Plant in Port Elizabeth ventured into their communities where they planted gardens, provided maintenance assistance and donated food parcels, clothing and other required items.
This is the sixth annual installment of this worldwide event, which is aimed at building Ford employee participation, involvement and support of the communities in which they live and work.
“Creating a better world is an important part of Ford’s legacy and an important part of its vision for the future. Ford volunteers are actively engaged in making that vision a reality. The Global Week of Caring is a fantastic initiative,” says Jeff Nemeth, FMCSA president and CEO, “It’s a global undertaking that allows staff to get involved with the community and make a difference.”
Each department within FMCSA got involved with a charity initiative of their choice. Among the charities that received renovations and donations are: the SOS Children’s Village, Le Amogetswe Safe Home, Horizon Care Centre, Little Strivers Play School, the Circle of Life non-profit organisation, Tateni Home Care, Viva SA Day Care Centre and the Malerato’s Hope Centre.
Ford employees in the Eastern Cape visited Lapumilanga Wellness Orphan Centre, Funduzufe Creche, Triomp Secondary School and Luvuyo Special School; where they too did maintenance work and provided donations.
The week culminated in a clean-up campaign outside the Ford Plant on Simon Vermooten Road in Pretoria. The clean-up campaign saw Ford employees throughout the company getting involved with the maintenance and preservation of the environment surrounding the Assembly Plant area including the planting of trees within the premises.
“While all Ford staff have spent the last week helping local communities, Ford’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives are ongoing throughout the year and we hope to continue to contribute so valuably to our society for many years to come. We also hope that this week has inspired employees to get involved in their own communities and continue to give back,” concludes Nemeth.
