The Bay West Mall in Gqeberha, when completed in early 2015, will comprise 87 500m² of lettable area. The construction value of the mall is approximately R1.7-billion, with a further R250-million being spent on developing the road network in the area which will include an intersection on/off the N2, as well as the Redhouse-Chelsea arterial road, linking the suburbs of Sherwood and Rowallan Park via a road over the N2. Two of South Africa’s retail development heavyweights, Abacus Asset Management and Billion Group, have come together with a common vision: Developing Baywest City – a ‘city within a city’ comprising of residential, retail, business and light industry nodes on a 320ha site in Gqeberha’s western suburbs. Rolled out over the next 10 to 15 years, the Baywest precinct will contain 4,000 residential opportunities, secure office parks, private schools, hospitals, a light industrial node, parklands and conservation areas. When completed, it will rival Sandton in Johannesburg and Century City in Cape Town. The catalyst to the Baywest City development is Baywest Mall, the most ground-breaking retail and entertainment complex ever built in South Africa. Packed with an energising 250 retail outlets, a Fun Factory, Ice Rink, a Food Court with a mouth-watering array of restaurants, and designer stores to whet the appetite of any keen fashion shopper, the super-regional mall is set to be the new go-to attraction in and around Nelson Mandela Bay and will become the shopping destination of choice in the province. Baywest Mall will be a destination for the entire family, with our Fun Factory containing the only ice rink in the Eastern Cape for the young and the young at heart, as well as a unique gaming experience, restaurants and state-of-the-art cinemas kitted out with top quality design and audio features. Complementing our world class entertainment will be our world class shopping spanning an impressive 40,000m² GLA. Not only will fashionistas be treated to bigger stores containing catalogues previously only found in Johannesburg and Cape Town, but Baywest Mall will contain unique leading fashion outlets found nowhere else in the country. This will put the Eastern Cape on the map for fashion tourists. Complementing our indoor experience will be our landscaped indigenous gardens and walkways where visitors can stroll in a peaceful, secure environment. There will even secure cycle paths around the Baywest site for the health fanatics. After all the shopping, fun and outdoor walks you’ll need to recoup at our food court which will have eateries to suit every taste and preference. There will also be a range of restaurants in our Fun Factory and, for visitors in search of fine dining, we’ll even have a Sushi & Champagne bar. Because of our size and the range of offerings, you’ll need more time to relax while you shop, eat and play. That’s why Baywest Mall will have extended trading hours, so there won’t be any need for you to feel rushed. Our trading hours will be: Sunday – Thursday : 09h00 – 19h00 Friday, Saturdays & Public Holidays : 09h00 – 21h00 Fun Factory, Restaurants & Food Court : 09h00 – 22h00* *Earlier closing times on Sundays
