Bay West Mall

The Bay West Mall in Gqeberha, when completed in early 2015, will comprise 87 500m² of lettable area. The construction value of the mall is approximately R1.7-billion, with a further R250-million being spent on developing the road network in the area which will include an intersection on/off the N2, as well as the Redhouse-Chelsea arterial road, linking the suburbs of Sherwood and Rowallan Park via a road over the N2. Two of South Africa’s retail development heavyweights, Abacus Asset Management and Billion Group, have come together with a common vision: Developing Baywest City – a ‘city within a city’ comprising of residential, retail, business and light industry nodes on a 320ha site in Gqeberha’s western suburbs. Rolled out over the next 10 to 15 years, the Baywest precinct will contain 4,000 residential opportunities, secure office parks, private schools, hospitals, a light industrial node, parklands and conservation areas. When completed, it will rival Sandton in Johannesburg and Century City in Cape Town.
