See the Humewood Links from a different perspective in a luxury vehicle

The Humewood Golf Club will be abuzz with activity from this weekend when the annual Links Festival of Golf takes place from April 23 to 29.


Under the watchful eye of golf professional, Brendon Timm, Land Rover representative, Kirsty Munna sinks her very first ball on the Humewood Links Golf Course. Then, Neil Bisseker from Algoa FM interviews Brendon about the upcoming Festival of Golf on Humewood’s famous Links course.

Sponsored by Land Rover Eastern Cape for the first time, the festival organisers have again set up a variety of daily competitions at a reasonable cost, providing an incentive for both regular club members and visitors to enjoy a round on one of South Africa’s most famous courses.

A unique dimension to the festival will be a special ride and drive track which has been set up on the periphery of the course to give golfers an experience in a number of Land Rover vehicles.

“This is a new addition to our normal programme of golf-related activities and we are looking forward to the chance to allow our sponsors to demonstrate what they have to offer,” said Humewood general manager Andrew Mclean.

“It is wonderful to have Land Rover Eastern Cape on board for our long-running festival and we are most appreciative of the support they have given us in providing these opportunities for both members and visitors.”

McLean said the ride and drive track would in no way impact on the golf action, having being created well away from the course.

Golfers who take the opportunity to drive one of the Land Rover vehicles will be placed in a lucky draw, with the winner receiving a weekend away for two at a luxury resort.

There will also be a major prize for the first player to register a hole-in-one, while the daily sponsored competitions will offer attractive incentives.

McLean said they had also decided on what they felt was a fair green fee for the duration of the festival, with golfers paying R150 in the morning competitions and R170 in the afternoons.

“We believe this should attract the golfers both in our region and from further afield as they get the chance for a true links experience,” he said.

“Our greens staff have been working extremely hard and the course is in excellent condition for the festival.”

He added the festival was open to anyone keen for a round of links golf, with different formats providing opportunities for golfers of all levels.

Sunday, April 23: Alliance (with a few twists!)
Monday, April 24: 4BBB Stableford (scrambled drive)
Tuesday, April 25: 4BBB Bonus Bogey (morning), ladies competition
Wednesday, April 26: Individual Stableford
Thursday, April 27: 4BBB Alliance (coloured ball)
Friday, April 28: 4BBB Stableford
Saturday, April 29: 4BBB Stableford
