One Link Change to make your WordPress site stronger in the Search Engines

As I wander around the internet I come across many local Port Elizabeth (and other) web sites that are not making FULL use of the tools offered by their WordPress Installation.

The most irksome of these is those sites not making full use of the permalink function.

HUH?

Gaining good placement in the search engines is all about keywords and their relevance and WordPress allows you to set up your permalinks to INCLUDE your page or article title. In other words these TWO links both point to the same page: http://straton.co.za/pre-paid/?page_id=12 AND http://straton.co.za/pre-paid/contact/ – it is a no-brainer to see which one looks prettier and will perform better in the Search Engines.

So, how do you set up WordPress for ‘pretty permalinks’?

  1. Log in to your WordPress Administration Section
  2. Click on ‘Settings’ in the LHS menu
  3. Click on ‘Permalinks’ from the drop down
  4. Choose ‘Post Name’
  5. Click ‘Save Changes’
