{"id":5257,"date":"2023-10-27T14:52:45","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T12:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mype.co.za\/business\/?p=5257"},"modified":"2023-10-27T14:52:45","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T12:52:45","slug":"possible-port-terminal-strike-could-harm-exports-and-imports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mype.co.za\/business\/possible-port-terminal-strike-could-harm-exports-and-imports\/","title":{"rendered":"Possible Port Terminal Strike Could Harm Exports and Imports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transnet SOC Ltd says that they have noted plans by the South African Transport &amp; Allied Workers\u2019 Union (SATAWU) to embark on protest action on 3 November 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Transnet regards the planned protest action as unprotected because the union has not complied with compulsory prerequisites for a lawful protest, which include a structured process conducted by NEDLAC.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, SATAWU is not in possession of the required certificate from NEDLAC. SATAWU has been given until COB today to provide a written undertaking that it will not embark on the unprotected protest and will not instigate others to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Transnet additionally issued a circular pointing out that if the action proceeds, the &#8216;no work, no pay&#8217; principle will apply and disciplinary action may be taken against employees participating in the illegal strike.<\/p>\n<p>Transnet reports that contingency plans have been put in place in the event of the SATAWU leadership and member scontinuin with the action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transnet SOC Ltd says that they have noted plans by the South African Transport &amp; Allied Workers\u2019 Union (SATAWU) to embark on protest action on 3 November 2023.
