March 8th is International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, and local artisan brewer; Dockside Brewery is participating and calling on women to collaborate and brew to create a limited edition, light craft beer, Woman’s Prerogative.
“We chose the name because March 8th is also the UN’s International Women’s Day and women all have rights and the roles we play should be celebrated.“ comments Dockside Brewery co-founder Jane Schlaphoff. “Profits made from the brew will be given to Missionvale Care Centre to support its craft unit where women knit, sew and bead to support the community’s needs and earn an income, as well as its organic vegetable garden where the ladies nurture their garden to provide wholesome food for their community.”
Ladies are invited to come to the brewery (17 Horton St.) throughout the day to enjoy learning about how craft beer is produced, as well as take part in networking sessions facilitated by The Herald columnist and The Office Coach managing member, Deirdre Elphick-Moore. Tickets for individuals cost R75 giving them a preferred time slot to brew, as well as one bottle of the exclusive brew. Corporate packages also available.
“Networking is central to success, but many are wary of those do so only to hand as many business cards out as possible, or so they can dominate conversations with details of the work they do. The world is becoming increasingly intolerant of the self-centred person. There is a new starting point for creating meaningful connections with people: “how can you contribute positively to the lives of the individual people you engage with?” The premise here is that you help others long before you need anything from them. This is the underlying theme for the day.” Comments Deirdre Elphick-Moore.
