Women’s Month kicks off, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and Mark Headbush Foundation has expanded its horizons in its 14 year and extended a hand of invitation to women to become part of the annual Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral Charity Golf Day.
Golf is historically an exclusive sport, more commonly appealing to and enjoyed in the main by men.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the Foundation is keen to grow the number of women participation in the golf day and be part of the greens community. To encourage more women over the years, the Foundation sponsored golf clubs to three women to take up the sport, hosted a ladies’ beginners golf clinic and invited lady golfers for a round of golf.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani expressed his excitement about previous work over the past 14 years with the Foundation. “On behalf of the only City named after Tata Madiba, we would like to commend the Foundation for the sterling work and inviting women to come play the sport. Nelson Mandela valued the meaningful cont4ribution by women in our societies. As the City through the Mayoral Golf Day, we are fully behind this programme and will continue to support this noble cause to improve the lives of the Nelson Mandela Bay Community”.
This year, the Mayoral Office is committed to create a welcoming environment that makes all females interested to participate and feel more comfortable to join the initiative so they can develop to lifetime golfers.
Mark Headbush, trustee of the foundation, said – “They have now seen ladies become passionate golfers and some have been on the winning podium.
How very fitting that as the Month set aside for Women kicks off (Thursday, 1st August 2019), the Office of the Executive Mayor with the Mark Headbush Foundation will be teeing off with women displaying their skill on the fairways.
Women teams are invited to participate as the foundation launchs the upcoming Annual Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral Charity Golf Day with the Executive Mayor Cllr. Mongameli Bobani.
“This year will see the highest number of slots allocated to female golfers,” Committed Mr Mandla Tisani, Foundation Chairman
The 14th Annual Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral Charity Golf Day will be held at the PE Golf Club – The Hill on Friday, 11th October 2019 where every cent that is raised goes directly to improving education facilities in Nelson Mandela Bay.
