People who know me will acknowledge that although I am net savvy I am a very cautious and ‘slow’ adopter of ‘new’ technologies. Take ‘Group Sex for Amoebas’ (Facebook) as a prime example. I just cannot see the value in spending hours on the site updating my happy snaps and telling everyone that I am happy, sad, horny or (more likely) grumpy, even though I opened an account almost as soon as Facebook went live.
The same with Twitter – for goodness sakes I have not used my cellphone for around three years now for one and for two it is just so much easier for people to come and see me at home or visit the MyPE web site if they want to see what is going in in my little pea brain!
BUT, of the social networking sites I have a greater leaning towards Twitter followed by LinkedIn. Back in early 2008 I opened a Twitter account and posted a few updates and then left it – too little time and not enough motivation.
I have now NOT followed anyone since starting the MyPE Twitter Account and, if you don’t follow MyPE, you will see the current number of followers below:
All the MyPE News articles, New Business Listings and New Classified Adverts are fed to the MyPE Twitter account (And some to our Group Sex for Amoebas MyPE Page) giving loads more exposure to Port Elizabeth and our loyal visitors / advertisers. Contact Janine to advertise on MyPE.
Those Port Elizabeth Twitterati who follow MyPE get added to the PETwitterati list which features their tweets in the RHS Sidebar of every news page on MyPE as well on the Twitter Page on MyPE – thanks enough methinks!
The whole hype about Twitter is that you can follow people and get updated with their latest Tweets. The problem I have with this is that I don’t want to inundated with inane stuff about someones latest bowel movements or, heaven forbid, their drunken sexual frustration ramblings after being turned down by the blonde/brunette/grey haired hottie at the pub!
Everyone says that the best way to be followed (and increase visitors to your web site) is to follow someone else who ‘may’ feel sorry for you and also follow you.
BUT, I am going to hold out for as long as possible and NOT follow anyone (at the risk of being called a spammer, as PEvideoGuy Glen tells me). Just maybe MyPE will become the one Twitter account that flies in the face of convention and does not indulge in ‘mass hysteria’ but actually provides good content all about Port Elizabeth and is found and followed by people who trust the MyPE Twitter feed.
Of course you can help me strengthen my resolve by popping on to the MyPE Twitter page and visiting the web sites of those that follow MyPE – just tell them who sent you!
