Titans victorious

16 November 2015 By News24Wire Leave a Comment

The Titans’ new opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Henry Davids finally achieved lift-off as their 71-run stand provided the impetus required for a five-wicket victory over the Warriors in the second game of Sunday’s double-header at SuperSport Park in Pretoria on Sunday.

Despite their clear potential, De Kock and Davids had struggled to make an impact in their first three games together, putting on no more than 11 runs in any partnership.

That changed on Sunday when De Kock blasted 60 from 34 balls and Davids contributed 43 as the Titans chased down a target of 150 with 17 deliveries to spare.

The Titans joined the table-topping Dolphins on 16 points as a result, while the Warriors were left with just eight points from the first half of the competition.

The visitors made a promising start to their innings after they lost the toss and were told to bat, with Colin Ackermann providing the stability up front and Colin Ingram weighing in with a quick 28 from just 15 deliveries.

Ingram’s dismissal proved the turning point as he was bamboozled by a Tabraiz Shamsi turner that left the left-hander stranded halfway down the track.

Yaseen Vallie was bowled in the spinner’s next over and, although Ackermann (40) and Christiaan Jonker (31) led a decent recovery, when they fell in the same David Wiese (3 for 23) over, the Warriors were short on firepower and finished up on 149 for seven.

With De Kock and Davids putting on their stand in under nine overs, and De Kock continuing his assault after Davids had fallen, the urgency was taken out of the chase.

The Warriors hit back by taking three key wickets for the addition of just 14 runs, but Farhaan Behardien and Graeme van Buuren still finished the job with plenty of balls to spare.
