Don’t forget to vote in 2 April Ward 1 by-election

Greetings I believe I still have lots to offer the residents of Ward 1, including the experience gained over the past eight years as a hard-working Ward councillor. I am now standing as an independent candidate in the by-election on Wednesday and I appeal to all Ward 1 voters to help re-elect me back to Council, where I will continue to fight for proper service delivery throughout the Ward. Some of my successes over the past years included the removal of the dangerous kerbs along Marine Drive, which created a hazard for cyclists, and construction of the wooden boardwalks from Pollok …

Support the Independent

Greetings to all Ward 1 voters In spite of the DA's decision to remove me, after a flawed process, I believe I still have lots to offer the Ward. I have been your Ward Councillor for the past 8 years, know it well, and have many friends in the Ward. With this knowledge, and 12 years of Tourism and event experience, I want to continue to fight for the Ward to make it crime free, clean, disabled friendly, sport friendly and a preferred place to live. You can ensure this and show the DA that they made an error of judgement in removing me. They took you, the voter, for granted. They …

Independent Candidate for Ward 1

Greetings to all I, Stanford Slabbert, would like to highlight the following points: I am standing as an independent candidate to be your councillor. I am committed to the principles of an open, free and fair society for all. I continue to work on Ward 1 issues and remain at your service. I spent seven years working for you and I want to continue serving you! Independent candidates throughout South Africa have been winning seats in by-elections You will have 110% of my effort in fighting Ward issues. Previously the DA expected me to spend 80% of my time on party matters, and …

Complaint re Abuse of Metro Traffic vehicles – Saturday 8th February

Greetings As the former Ward 1 Councillor and now an independent candidate in the forthcoming Ward 1 by-election, I have lodged the strongest objection to the flagrant abuse of two Metro Traffic vehicles (maybe three) on Saturday evening, 8th February. My family were amongst the large and excited crowd of onlookers in front of Collegiate High School, watching the parade of dazzling vehicles deliver their equally dazzling couples to the Matric Dance. The parade started at about 6.15pm and continued for just over two hours. The screams of the excited onlookers as each couple stepped …

Stanford Slabbert on his dismissal

Former DA Councillor in Ward 1, Stanford Slabbert issued the following statement today, 26 November 2013: It is with great sadness that I learnt yesterday that the Federal Council of the Democratic Alliance had dismissed my appeal. The Federal Council's decision was forwarded to my attorneys after close of business on Friday afternoon, and I was first made aware of my fate when I saw it on MyPE at 8:29am (DA expels Stanford Slabbert) and subsequently heard it on the 8:30am Monday morning Algoa FM news bulletin. Throughout this flawed and one-sided process, the DA has always engaged …

DA expels Stanford Slabbert

The Democratic Alliance, under the hand of Athol Trollip issued the following statement; "The membership of Stanford Slabbert has been terminated. This is the harshest sanction for a DA public representative. This sends an unambiguous message to everyone in the DA, especially public representatives, that racism in any and all its guises is rejected and will not be tolerated under any circumstances in the DA. "Mr. Slabbert was charged for bringing the party into disrepute and offending his colleagues for circulating an offensive and racist email. "Racism remains a blight in our new …

Ward 1 Report – October 2013

To see how hard working Ward Councillors go about their jobs, see Ward 1 councillor, Stanford Slabbert’s newsletter below. You may contact Ward 1 using the contact form at the bottom of this report. It has become clear that a regular newsletter to all residents is needed, as several areas no longer have regular meetings and there is information that needs to be disseminated. In fact, the only area that still has a regular bi-monthly meeting is the Walmer Heights, Miramar, Mount Pleasant Providentia and Lovemore Heights area. Some of the info contained in this newsletter was included in …

The Brigadier and the Foot Soldiers

I have lived in Ward 1 - Summerstrand for 35 years. Naturally, during this period I have seen many changes in how the suburb has been treated and governed by the local government. In the old days, when it was "Whites Only", we had voluntary City Councillors (with no pay) serving us. But post 1994, things changed for the better and the demands on councillors became much more onerous. As a consequence, the City Council became politicised and Summerstrand has experienced both ANC and DA representation during the past two decades.  The result, of course, has been that - in the DA at any rate - …

Stanford Slabbert Again

MyPE Logo

I so hate to start my Monday off with a rant and a rage - I always feel like that will set the tone for the rest of the week. As people who know MyPE will attest - our editorial policy on MyPE is quite simple; "If it is about PE then it is in". As a result we spend quite a bit of time reading about PE on MyPE and other web sites. Traditional media houses (newspapers) have a policy to never advertise their potential and real rivals by ignoring the fact that they might even exist. For years the only way for competing media houses to get a mention in a rival publication was via an …

More Clarity from Stanford Slabbert

Dear Residents By now you would have heard the latest news in my unfortunate email saga. At the judgement hearing on Tuesday, between 1:00 and 3:0 pm, they found me guilty on 3 of the 4 charges. Late Tuesday afternoon, the DA's Provincial Exco endorsed the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to terminate my membership of the party. They informed the media at about 5:00 pm on Tuesday, and I was only officially informed of the outcome at 9:04 am on Wednesday morning! They could not even inform me first - I had to hear it via the media!! I would like to clarify five aspects that …

Stanford Slabbert Replies

Dear Editor At the Judgement Hearing of my case this afternoon (Tuesday 13 August), I was verbally advised that the DA panel was to recommend that my DA membership be terminated, subject to ratification by the Provincial Exco. According to various media sources, I have now heard that my membership has indeed been terminated. Whilst I still await written clarification and notice of this result, as a loyal and hardworking member of the DA, I am deeply saddened by the committees recommendation to terminate my membership. As a Ward Councillor for the past seven years, I have always …

Stanford Slabbert stripped of party membership over racist email

The DA has concluded a comprehensive disciplinary process whereby charges were laid against DA Ward 1 Councillor Stanford Slabbert for the circulation of an offensive and racist email. This gave rise to a disciplinary hearing attended by Cllr Slabbert and the legal representative defending him, with the DA providing a prosecution and a disciplinary hearing panel. The recommendation by the Provincial Disciplinary Council was that Cllr Slabbert's party membership be terminated after he was found guilty of contravening clauses 2.5.3.4, 2.5.3.5 and 2.5.3.6 of the DA Federal Constitution. This …

Sustainable water supply for Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounding area

The Department of Water Affairs together with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) is intensifying efforts to improve water security in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro area amid concerns over the significant increase in water use since the drought of 2009-2011 was broken. Water use is currently between 296 and 300 megalitres per day. This has resulted in dam levels dropping by 1.5% per week. This was among the concerns raised at the biannual meeting of the Algoa Reconciliation Strategy Steering Committee held Port Elizabeth. The meeting emphasised that the most important measures to ensure …

Ward 39 has just issued the following response: After our office was inundated with call from residents who did not receive their municipal statement for May 2013 our office queried the problem with Mr Sandt at the customer care division. Future of Lovemore Park Primary School under threat

The Ward 1 office was recently approached by the headmistress of Lovemore Park Farm School, Ms Ayanda Nkumanda, who appealed for help to prevent the threatened merger or closure of the school. The following is her appeal: On 12th March, 2013, the MEC for Education, Mr Makupula called the school governing bodies to a meeting at Algoa College of Education. This was to relay the scenarios for the re-alignment, mergers and closing of schools. The District Director of Port Elizabeth addressed the meeting on the status of the district, number of learners, teachers and schools in the district. …

ANC Statement on Racist E-Mail

Local news reports have revealed the obvious racist views that are held by the Democratic Alliance (DA). One of the DA's senior Nelson Mandela Bay Councillors, Stanford Slabbert is guilty of spreading racist DA propaganda which, among other things, insults the President, insults Black people, and insults all South Africans in general. Whilst we have come to expect such racism from elements within the DA, we are particularly disturbed by the blatantly offensive language displayed in this communication which makes no apology for the extreme racism it propagates. Councillor Slabbert claims …

Final Opportunity to Lodge Objections

Erf 8 - Mount Pleasant

The owner of ERF 8, Mount Pleasant (55 Buffelsfontein Road, Mount Pleasant through to 38 Greenways, Lovemore Heights) has applied for rezoning from Residential 1 to Residential 3 to allow the development of 24 (TWENTY FOUR) Sectional title units on this property of 1952 square metres. This development equates to a footprint of 81 square metres per unit, and that is without even making allowance for vehicular traffic. At the recent NMMM Housing & Land meeting on Friday 24th May 2013, despite objections raised by residents it was voted to allow this development to proceed. Councillor, Mr …
