Beaches in the Port Alfred area have been re-opened by the Ndlambe Municipal authorities. Ndlambe Municipal authorities and NSRI continue to urge bathers swimming in the sea and surfers and paddlers to always be cautious and in light of the shark incident at East Beach yesterday, Wednesday, 10th July, a safety advisory remains in place. Robbers wrong move as off duty SAPS member robbed

5 suspects between the ages of 20 and 30 were arrested after they allegedly robbed an off duty police officer. Items of clothing that he was wearing as well as his cellular phone and wallet were taken from him at knifepoint. He was not injured. A 30-year-old security guard was arrested whilst on duty at a local mall. The suspect faces a charge of business break in. It is alleged that between Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April, the suspect allegedly broke a window and entered a shop at the Mall to steal 5 blankets and 2 bags to the value of R9000. Buziwe Nocuze from Groundup writes: Taxi drivers and owners say they have been complaining for months about smelly sewerage water spilling out onto the ground at the Port Alfred taxi rank. Taxi owner Zukisa Faliteni said the owners had alerted Ndlambe municipality three months ago but nothing had been done. A driver said a pipe seemed to be broken. Detectives from the Port Alfred Family Violene and Sexual Offences Unit secured hefty sentences in the Port Alfred Regional Court for rape offenders. Fatal crash between bakkie and taxi

A culpable homicide case is under investigation following a two-car accident which claimed the life of a 67-year-old man in the early hours of Friday morning. Police were called to the scene, about 10km outside Port Alfred towards Kenton-On-Sea, at about 5am. On arrival they found the two damaged vehicles, a white Ford Bantam and a Nissan minibus taxi, on the side of the road.
