Algoa FM presenter Queenie Grootboom to host “change of shift” show

27 March 2018 By Port Elizabethan Leave a Comment

Queenie Grootboom, who’s been co-hosting Algoa FM’s lunch-time show with husband Mio Khondleka, will be flying solo from April the 1st, when she hosts the seven to ten pm show from Sunday to Friday evenings.“The change of shift” show, as she calls it, is a familiar concept to her as she previously presented this show during 2012 and 2013. Jeff Moloi, who currently presents the show, is leaving the station and so too is producer Monde Kapa, who also presented a Saturday evening show.“While we are really sorry to see Jeff go, it is great to have Queenie back in the hot seat. Under her wing, the show enjoyed tremendous ratings and we have no doubt that she’ll once again take it to new heights,” says Algoa FM operations director Alfie Jay.“The show is on air during an interesting time,” says Grootboom, “you are joined by people who are knocking off work, or people who are at the end of their daily run around, as well as shift workers on their way to report for duty – so in many ways – it is a drive-time and breakfast show all in one”. Husband Mio says he sees the two shows as providing a bridge for listeners from lunch-time through to home-time. “It is great to see Queenie empowered with her own show again. Being partners in life, as well as on air, we will complement each other,” he says. The lunch-time show will now have more music and allow for more interaction with listeners, he says. Other on-air changes for Algoa FM include Siobhan Momberg, who currently presents the early weekday pre-DMB hour, moving from Sunday to Saturday evenings between seven and ten pm; and newly appointed Roch-Lè Bloem presenting the Saturday show from noon to three in the afternoon. “Having new voices on air is always exciting. These changes to the line-up have been made in response to feedback from our listeners, and we are privileged to have such great talent available in the Eastern Cape to adapt to the changing preferences of the audience,” says Jay. Young trailblazers rise to the occasion on Algoa FM

13 February 2018 By Port Elizabethan Leave a Comment

Whilst one of Algoa FM’s recent on air appointments moves into weekdays, another joins the station for the very first time. Early mornings are a challenge for many, but not for Siobhan Momberg, who fearlessly pursuits much bigger challenges that set her soul on fire. The avid adventure-seeker joined Algoa FM as a presenter just six months ago, with a Sunday evening show between 7 and 10pm. Now in addition to hosting on Sundays, she will be on air between five and six in the morning, on weekdays. “Siobhan’s personality has a feel-good-vibe to it, which is exactly what our early morning audience is looking for. It is just the right amount of energy that is needed for the show that is the premiere precursor to our Breakfast Show,” says Algoa FM Operations Director, Alfie Jay. Momberg will take over as Algoa FM bids farewell to Shereez Govender, who took a personal decision to focus on her boutique business. This also frees up Saturday lunch, which will soon be hosted by a newcomer, Roch-Lè Bloem. “I’ve seen some of her work on local television and also caught snippets of her show on community radio. I have no doubt that our audience will quickly warm to this bright young woman,” says Jay. Roch-Lè is a Broadcast Journalism Honours Graduate, who also holds a degree in Media, Communications and Culture. Algoa Country can look forward to hearing her on-air “really soon,” says Jay.
