EP Rugby Development Continues

EP Kings Rugby Academy manager Robbi Kempson has confirmed his belief in the future of rugby in the province in the wake of recent media reports regarding Saru's withdrawal of funding. Kempson said the academy, which is based at NMMU's human movement sciences department in Port Elizabeth, was not in danger of closing and had an important role to play as a talent pipeline for the provincial side. He said the academy's logistics had, until recently, been funded by the national lottery and channelled through Saru. "That funding has come to an end and Saru now has to take up the funding," …

Under 16’s lose to KZN in Oudtshoorn

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

The Under-16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week got off to a thrilling start at the Bridgton Sports Grounds in Oudtshoorn on Monday with a mixture of narrow victories and big wins keeping fans entertained throughout the day. The battle between KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Province proved to be physical as both teams tried to use their power to force their way onto the front foot. The Durban side struck first with a try by Kamvelihle Fatyela in the sixth minute, but a penalty by Eastern Province’s Vaughen Isaacs three minutes later closed the gap slightly. They added a try in the 26th minute to take …

I am so tempted to say that I saw this coming after EP's less than stellar performance against Border as the curtain raiser to the Sharks vs EP game on 4 July 2014, but that would be with the benefit of hindsight ...... and churlish after their 2 point win against the Pumas on Monday. Spear-headed by a dazzling display from flyhalf Bader-Werner Pretorius, KZN totally outplayed Eastern Province in their match at the u18 Coca-Cola Academy Week in Worcester on 8 July and scored at will in the first half. The KZN flyhalf, Bader-Werner Pretorius, managed to find holes in the defences with his …
