Yup, Port Elizabeth gets to celebrate V-Day all over again.
The Vagina Monologues, the show that thrilled PE 1n 2008, will be staged at the PE Opera House on Saturday 11 February 2012. The producers, The Elizabeth Club 100, are proud to be presenting this watershed worldwide event in Port Elizabeth in association with legendary SA Theatre personalities, Des and Dawn Lindberg.
V-Day is celebrated all over the world at this time of the year. Director Dawn Lindberg is already busy casting in Port Elizabeth, to feature some of the local stars who took part in the previous production, and introducing some exciting new faces and voices. Four charities will benefit: The Yokhuselo Haven, Igazi Foundation, Bet Sheekoom and Operation Smile
“It is very exciting to re-awaken awareness of the plight of women and their courage and power in dealing with violence, disease, and prejudice in every part of society,” says Dawn. “The author, Eve Ensler, has by means of the theatre played a huge role in alerting governments, churches, civic groups and individuals to the challenges, the joys and triumphs of being a woman with a voice that needs to be heard – This extraordinary piece of theatre is sometimes tough, sometimes hilarious, and highly entertaining, funny but not frivolous, and a marvellous vehicle for fund-raising for causes desperately in need of support in our communities. It’s our ticket to making a difference!”
“This evening has changed me” exclaimed a prominent businessman as he emerged into the Johannesburg foyer after seeing the show. “This is something for men and women to experience together!”
Dawn will stage and direct the production and perform as narrator, Des will handle Lights, Sound and Technicals.
The Vagina Monologues will play at the Opera House PE on Saturday 11 February at 7:00 for 7:30pm, and at The Rhodes Theatre Grahamstown on Sunday 12 February at 6:00pm.
Songs in the show will be performed by Mandisa Tiso, and Niqui Cloete-Barrass.
Tickets cost R150pp and can be booked at the Info Desk, Walmer Park (for the PE Show) from Wednesday 18 January and from Cathy Braans (for the Grahamstown Show) 083 469 7217 / 046 622 7896
