The following successes were achieved during this weekend (16-19) September 2016 in the Mount Road policing cluster. A total of 163 suspects were arrested for various crimes including possession of drugs, robbery, drunken driving, possession of suspected stolen property, murder, attempted murder, theft from motor vehicle, house robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
All arrested persons are expected to appear in court soon.
A total of 13 arrests were made on drug-related cases in the entire cluster for the weekend. Suspects were charged for either possession of drugs or dealing in drugs. The arrests were effected during routine patrols and stop-and-search operations.
Members performing duties under Operation Lockdown also effected a number of arrests last week (12-19 September) concentrating specifically in the Northern areas. A total of 14 arrests were effected for crimes relating to drugs, robbery, and possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
Total confiscations included : 73 dagga rolls, 59 mandrax tablets, 5 packets of tik, 12 knives,11 cell phones, toy gun, Fiat UNO (stolen vehicle), 7,65 firearm, 2 magazines, 8c CD’s, two 2-way radios and 13 Schedule 6 tablets(Adcodol).
On 14 September 2016 members of the Gang Task Team arrested a 16 year old at his house in Helenvale. On 6 March 2016, the suspect and a friend shot at the complainant (19) while he was in Leith Street, Helenvale. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds. The suspect appeared in court on 15 September 2016 and remains in police custody for further investigation.
On 16 September 2016 at about 01:20 the intervention team under Operation Lockdown searched a house in Booysens Park, Bethelsdorp for possible drugs. No drugs were found but a police bullet proof vest was seized. A 28 year old suspect was arrested.
On 17 September 2016 at about 23:45, a 23 year old victim was shot twice in the shoulder and hand while in Melkbos Street, Bethelsdorp. It is alleged that the victim asked a known person for a light for his cigarette and as he turned around, the suspect fired at him. The victim was with his girlfriend. At about 01:00 on 18 September 2016 the intervention team arrested a 23 year old suspect in Jenneker Street. He is expected to appear in court soon.
On 17 September 2016, while on routine patrols, members spotted an abandoned stolen vehicle in Bagshaw Street in North End. The vehicle was stolen in the Mount Road area in September 2016.
