The writer, John Waters, was full of praise and wrote:
In our periodical reminiscences on our travels in South Africa we always talk fondly of our stay at your beautiful guest house.
When we left you on the last morning (Editor’s Note: of John and wife Cheryl’s stay in 2011), we went to the impressive St Georges Park. I still can’t understand why, as a cricket fan, I left it to the 12th hour. However all entrances were securely locked to the public, and we were about to give up, when a solitary walker appeared. He turned out to have connections in the Club, and used his authority to have the gates open for us. We were then introduced to the Senior Coach in the Offices, who offered to show us the wicket at close quarters. Although a Test match had been played on it 24 hours earlier (S.A. vs India – won by S.A.), it was in a wonderful condition, with not a blade of grass to be seen!
After seeing a famous Test fast bowler practising in the nets, we were both presented with 2 “Warriors” Caps and were invited as guests to the match scheduled for that evening, which just happened to be against Sussex C.C.! We had to be on our way however, but we were so impressed by the reception, time and courtesy shown to us.
To the unnamed citizen who showed John and Cheryl around we can only say; “Well Done and thank you.”
