Community Tourism Forums represent areas such as Walmer, Motherwell, Uitenhage and Greater New Brighton, which consists of KwaZakhele, Zwide, Veeplaas, Soweto and other surrounding areas.
The significance of the newly formed body is its representation of communities and tourism businesses at a community level. The platform will also serve as a communication and consultative platform for government programmes, plans and policies.
It is made up of tourism business representatives, interested and emerging entrepreneurs, including community development activists.
One of the our key focus areas as this government is to turn the Metro around through working with organised tourism bodies to exploit unique tourism offerings that the City boats. Through the formation of these forums, I strongly believe we will be able to develop and implement a holistic tourism strategy to realise massive potential for an equitable share of global tourism.
As such, we expect these forums to extensively market the Metro in terms what it has to offer to both local and domestic visitors.
Nelson Mandela Bay has already entrenched its global status as a preferred sport tourism destination.
To compliment this, we will embark on repacking our tourism offerings, with specific focus on township areas, to showcase this unexplored territory.
One of the biggest challenges we are facing as the Metro is massive unemployment and through this launch, we hope to mitigate this challenge by rolling out sustained marketing of the City in order to grow local tourism.
