The Port of Port Elizabeth is a convenient bolt hole for foreign yachts sailing down the South African Coast from Richards Bay. Most foreign yachts will clear in to South Africa in Richards Bay – they then have three months to cruise our coastline with most making passage for Cape Town – normally with stops in Port Elizabeth and/or Mossel Bay. One of the duties that the Algoa Bay Yacht Club performs is to ensure that foreign yachts that make their first landfall in Port Elizabeth are assisted to clear into South Africa. The ABYC also passes on flight plans to the authorities as the yachts leave our Port – valuable functions that allows our coastal authorities to monitor the safe passage of these vessels along our coastline.
