Seen by MyPE – As we drove home up Russel Road at around 8:00 pm on Saturday 11 July we saw a white Polo stopped in the outside lane going up just before Mastertons coffee shop. To the left and on the sidewalk a ‘man’ was assaulting a woman. We turned our vehicle around and went to the other side of the road (these ‘gentlemen’ that operate in that area are rumoured to be pretty well armed) where I managed to get some shaky disjointed video of this ‘man’ who had now picked the woman up, proceeded to throw her into the car and hauled off at a speed with an accomplice vehicle in tow. Both managed to lose us in Central as we tried to follow them.
Whilst this was going on the Longhair was frantically trying to get hold of 10111 who dropped the calls and put her on hold. Eventually we drove to Mount Road SAPS who took down the registration of the silver accomplice vehicle and told us that it was actually the jurisdiction of Humewood Police Station. We were not even asked for our details and, dejected, we walked out past 12 or so vagrants gathered and bedding down for the night in the entrance to Mount Road SAPS.
That a ‘man’ could assault someone with vehicles going up and down Russel Road and no-one else stopped is a sad indictment on us as a society – for the assaulter and observers.
