Join Port Elizabeth and MyPE in congratulating Mover and Shaker, The Music Kitchen on their 3rd Birthday.
3 years of good times, 3 years of great LIVE music, 3 years of passion!
Local live music spot, The Music Kitchen, will be celebrating their 3rd Birthday on 18 October.
The Music Kitchen has become one of Port Elizabeth’s premier live music spots, boasting some of SA’s favourite bands!
With its laid back rustic garden setting, bonfire, delicious home style comfort food, fans and musicians alike see it as a home from home!
Owner, Mark Dorward says, “It has been a crazy ride! From the first night we took over with 186 customers here to watch Dan Patlansky until today, I would not change a single thing! I have met such amazing people and watched the growth of so many talented artists. It really IS a privilege!” He continues on why he started, “Without the ability to do what these artists can, I facilitate it! The Music Kitchen has given them the platform to do what they love so much and what the public loves as well! I really am living my dream”.
Well wishes from the musicians have been flooding in:
Hugo Kleinhans or “the Human Jukebox” as he has been known said, “I’ve never felt more at home while performing at The Music Kitchen. There’s an atmosphere that very few venues have and any night turns into a jol. I can count the amount of bad times I’ve had there, with one hand, no fingers. Happy Birthday TMK! I hope you have many more!”
Brenton Krain of The Lucas Reunion said, “ We always enjoy our gigs at The Music Kitchen. It’s one of the few places around where the party just keeps going. Everyone’s in a jovial mood once they walk in through the front door and that’s always a good thing. Happy spaces paint happy faces… it’s actually that simple”.
Megan du Toit from the band making the biggest waves in the Bay, The Cottonfields said, “The Music Kitchen has always provided us with an awesome platform to share our foot stomping, hillbilly antics! We’ve enjoyed many a festive night there, with performances usually reaching ridiculous levels of bone rattling, elbow flapping silliness! We are stoked to have a venue in PE that really supports and promotes local music. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUSIC KITCHEN!”
Arno Carstens weighs in with, “Every now and then you come across a venue that exudes a volatile warmth that is hard to define special nonetheless. Is it the charismatic owners or the food, the down to earth atmosphere or a crazy music appreciative audience? With Music Kitchen in PE it’s all of the above. I always look forward to playing there and cannot wait visit again “.
Albert Frost, who has graced TMK no less than 7 times, said, “The Music Kitchen is one of my favorite venues in South Africa for sure, people are so supportive and the venue is run by people that truly love music – What more could you ask for? Happy Birthday!”
The 18 October celebrations showcase two of Port Elizabeth’s finest, Hugo Kleinhans and The Lucas Reunion – entry is R20.00 at the door.
