The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal area will be a hive of activities today when several Nelson Mandela International Day events take place in the spirit of volunteerism for the betterment of all.
Nelson Mandela International Day, follows a unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly, on the democratic South Africa’s founding father’s birthday on 18 July 2009, that this day must be observed annually.
The main event takes place at Grogro (Ward 18) where the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in partnership with the Eastern Cape Legislature will renovate three houses (paint, replace windows, reconnect electricity, plant trees, plumbing and replace broken pipes amongst others), clean school grounds of the BJ Mnyanga Primary School and do repairs as well as the handover of 50 wheelchairs.
Government’s services on wheels will be available for ID applications and distribution, social grants applications, applications for free basic services from the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality and food parcels distribution. The meeting point for this event is the Ngene Street Sports Field, Grogro.

Nelson Mandela Memorial Lecture:
