Throughout and post his tertiary career, Mthokozisi has worked with a variety of South African musicians, primarily in the Jazz genre. The depth of his musical palate ranges from Jazz to Neo Soul, Indie as well as hip hop music. He has played for Modern Tribe (formerly known as New Afro Teens), Maisha, award winning Gospel artist Israel Mosehla, Standard Bank Ovation award winner Asanda Mqiki, SAMA nominee MXO, BREW and the Nelson Mandela Bay Jazz Orchestra. Mabuza is the musical director, Co-composer for Sizwe Yaze and the multi-talented Ntlantla “Ntlaa” Swana, co-produced an album for Madd Fingerz, and co-produced and performed with SAMA winner, Phumlani Mtiti on a project with Ntsika Tyatya called Pieces of Every Me which was staged at the National Arts Festival.
This young artist is blazing through the trails of the African music circuit and making a name for himself. He performed at festivals such as Frolunda Culture House Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2014, the National Arts Festival from 2013 until 2016, The Cape Town Fringe Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz 2017 and 2018 and at Oppiekoppie in Limpopo in 2016 to name but a few. Currently Mthokozisi is working with Legendary Guitarist, Lawrence Matshiza on Czwe Yaze musiq’s debut album “Bahlekazi”. With an array of versatility and a flair on the keys we can be sure to be treated to a titillating Jazz’Afro Sundays @ The Barn by Mthokozisi Mabuza!
