Port Elizabeth’s Tavcor Motor Group celebrated its commitment to the Khaya Cheshire childrens’ charity with a birthday bash and large cheque to mark the fifth year that the motor dealership has supported the centre.
In 2006 the Tavcor Motor Group was approached to assist with the establishment of Khaya Cheshire in Port Elizabeth’s Gqebera (Walmer) Township.
Khaya Cheshire, as an outreach project of the Summerstrand-based Cheshire Homes, focuses on providing a daycare facility for disabled children in the township.
The children are provided with daily meals, assistive devices such as wheelchairs, basic healthcare monitoring, food parcels for home and transport to and from the daycare centres.
In 2009 Cheshire Homes expanded its circle of care and opened Miracle Kids in Cleary Park. In total the two centres care for 65 disabled children.
The Tavcor Motor Group has made an annual corporate donation to the centres since 2006.
In addition the Company’s Employee Representative Council raises funds for the “special needs” of the children on an ongoing basis.
Fundraising efforts include monthly market days where staff members have the opportunity to buy delicious food made by Cheshire homes residents, some of whom are qualified chefs.
Funds raised through the company’s recycling projects are all donated to the centres.
In line with Tavcor’s commitment to supporting disabled children CEO Alan Taverner, was proud to present Khaya Cheshire Co-ordinator Hilary Bolton with their biggest financial contribution to date.
Tavcor Human Resources Manager, Megan Stow, said, “Handing over an R80 000 cheque was a true privilege. I feel very proud of our relationship with Khaya and Miracle Kids and admire the great work done by both centres.”
Delicious cake, many smiles and a well sung national anthem, topped off with the generous contribution from Tavcor, made for a special, memorable day for all.
