Nelson Mandela Bay’s favourite family beach event is heading into the final round of season 14 and there is everything to swim for.
After a six-week break, the aQuelle Ocean Racing Series returned for the penultimate round two weeks ago which brought this season one round closer to its completion. This Sunday will see the return of the action-packed schedule which is best associated with the series for the final time before season 15.
For the front runners like Mieke De Villiers and Craig Wilson in the 400m swim there will be no time to waste as they try to nail down their award at the final prize giving. Together with the 400m there will also be 5 other categories to which prizes will be awarded, namely the 5km beach walk and run and the 1, 2 and 3km swim events. Each of these categories will have its own fierce battles to see who comes out on top.
For those who are not competing for podium positions there are still plenty of reasons to head down to Hobie Beach this Sunday. One reason is to soak up the last few rays of the summer sun as we head toward Autumn. The main reason though is the wide range of lucky draw prizes which will be up for grabs. The premier lucky draw prize being the Greenacres Shopping Centre R1,000 voucher whilst the swimmers also fancy the sought after Blu Smooth hampers. Four lucky participants will each receive high quality T shirts and other awesome swimming accessories from PE’s leading wetsuit provider. The Blu Smooth prize give-away doesn’t end there though and culminates in a top-of-the-range wetsuit prize up for grabs at the final function.
Michael Zoetmulder, the event organiser, has echoed the statement of final round fever hitting all the competitors saying, “The Ocean Racing Series final round is always one of the most interesting. Many of the competitors know what they need to do to win their category. In some instances, competition may get a little more intense than normal but, in the end, we are all out here at Hobie Beach to enjoy a day of fun and exercise”.
Zoetmulder also mentioned the final function taking place on the 1st of April. He said, “This year’s function should be another brilliant one. We have several more prizes to give away along with the awards and floating trophies which go to our category winners. We are all looking forward to a great evening in celebration of another record breaking season”.
The final function will be held at News Cafe and will start at 6pm on Monday evening. The stage will be set to honour those who have excelled throughout the season whether it be overall or in their specific age groups. Further information and overall results are available on the website www.oceanracingseries.com. All competitors who are in the running for awards should perhaps consider having a look to see where they stand. You never know, it could make all the difference.
