Local songstress Zahara is being hailed by critics as the country’s newest Afro-soul star. To give local fans a chance to see her perform live, she will appear at The Boardwalk’s Lawn Area on 15 October.
Born as Bulelwa Mkutukana in Phumlani settlement outside East London, she now performs as Zahara, meaning blooming flower. It was in the local Church choir that her talent was first noticed.
While her parents saved money to send the talented youngster to university, she filled her time with learning to play guitar. However, despite enrolling at Walter Sisulu University, she was forced to leave as she lacked the funds to continue. But her luck was on her side when local producer Akona Petela heard her sing and opened the door for her to enter the world of music.
Zahara recently recorded a full length album with TS Records which will be released in the Eastern Cape first.
The show starts at 16h00 and tickets are available from Computicket at R100 – R120.
