The world renowned Design Indaba Conference, famous for its showcase of innovative and talented out of the box thinkers and designers, will be streamed live from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth from March 1st to the 3rd. It is brought to the city by Boomtown and NMMU.
The theme for 2017 follows the line ‘Inspiration is nothing without action’, and sets an exciting message and tone for the event.
Design Indaba is an annual three-day showcase of the world’s best creative minds, providing endless inspiration, new perspectives and universal solutions. And it’s on the doorstep of Port Elizabeth’s creatives to inspire and uplift the local and South African design sector.
“To bring the event to PE and inspire its creative community for them to realise their own possibility is important to us – and something we endeavour to do every day.” remarks Boomtown Managing Director, Andrew MacKenzie.
Speakers include Brookyln-based artist Ekene Ijeoma, a socially-focused interdisciplinary artist and designer who uses data to translate overlooked facts into informed feelings.; architect Kjetil Thorsen founding partner of the Norwegian architecture and landscape design firm Snøhetta; technology designer and crowdsourcing pioneer Luis von Ahn who known for creating CAPTCHAs and the language-learning platform Duolingo; and Zimbabwean activist and social entrepreneur Chido Govera uses coffee waste to grow mushrooms and provide sustainable income for orphans.
