Great Success and Joy for 38 Graduates

MyPE Logo

“My heart is full of gratitude as I think of the journey I have travelled since I became a part of this programme. I was lost, had been rejected a few times and had given up. The Umzi Wethu programme turned my life around. After each day I was full of hope, after every session I felt revived and after time spent in class I was reminded once again that my life mattered, my situation was not permanent, that I would conquer depression and anxiety, and that I would rise above all obstacles”. These are the words of Sanelisiwe Ntseta, a young woman who graduated as an Assistant Chef from the Umzi …

Take Small steps with your 2019 savings goals

Many people will start the New Year with a list of financial resolutions, but will end up not sticking to all of them. Starting the year right with small practical goals will help ensure that you achieve your goals in 2019. Understanding what your goals will be for the year is important. Himal Parbhoo, CEO Cash Investments: Retail explains that, “Resolutions are great, but tend to fall by the wayside very quickly. Goals on the other hand are manageable and aimed towards a specific or desired result. They provide direction and eventually an outcome that you can be proud of.” An evaluation …

NMB Metro Rated ‘Stable’

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is pleased at the recent Moody's rating score of Baa3/Aaa.za with a stable outlook, delivered on January 21, 2019. However, the City is under no illusion that this is the best that we can achieve. Although these news did not make the headlines, as news about the recent assassinations and gangster violence attracted more attention. In order for the institution to keep up with the pace in terms of these assessments and comfort for investors, bankers, etc., the NMBM makes use of credible or internationally recognised Rating Agent (i.e. Moody’s Investors …

Ramaphosa must come clean on Bosasa bribe before he delivers SONA

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE This evening President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) embroiled in personal controversy. The President has to date failed to provide the nation with answers as to the R500 000 “donation” he received from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson, and his son Andile’s subsequent business contracts with Bosasa. We cannot expect President Ramaphosa to provide answers to our nation’s greatest crises when he cannot provide answers to his and his family’s relationship with a company that has succeeded by bribing ANC and senior government officials for the better …

The Truth About Solar Power in Nelson Mandela Bay – who still benefits

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality was the first one to introduce a managed plan for renewable energy to connect to the grid. At the time the method of operation was very progressive and fair - translation: it favoured the consumer. Basically anyone could install any amount of renewable energy to zero their consumption and not pay a cent for the use of the municipal grid (as a battery) at night or at times when solar panels were not producing enough to match household consumption. The uptake from private homes was not great owing to the installed price being a lot higher than it is …

#Bosasagate – Watson not amongst those arrested

MyPE Logo

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes reports that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the “Hawks”) have arrested a number of suspects in connection with the Bosasa corruption scandal. This is indeed a positive development following damning and detailed testimony at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in recent weeks which implicated former and current Bosasa executives, senior government officials and top ANC leadership in acts of bribery, money laundering, fraud, and corruption. We are, however, perplexed by reports that Bosasa CEO, Gavin …
