Herbie Louis Lunnon – Featured Blog

Today's posts from our featured Port Elizabeth Blogger: Herbie Louis Lunnon: Yesterday, 42 years ago on 30 May 1976, my Dad passed away on the farm Leeukuil in the Agter Paarl district. It’s been a long walk without a father. He suffered a debilitating stroke which left him paralyzed from 1969. I regret growing up without a father figure as much as I regret not being a father figure for our own boys. But the walk continues … Source: BrainStorms – Ed Lunnon's Blog. Inferior Township Roads

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE Can anyone say why road surfacing (tar) in townships is far inferior than those of the suburbs? The surface is almost always rough with the merely blackened concrete stones being visible, let alone the bone-shaking vibrations even in a well-insulated car. I don't know if the people who get the contracts for the resurfacing thereof are busy with cost-saving for their ultimate enrichment, have contracts with tyre companies to wear out our tyres faster for a speedy re-purchasing of tyres, black people enjoy living in a bad maintenance quagmire and/or the tardy payment of …

Stand by for a bit of…. Flamboyance

MyPE Logo

The term flamboyant suggests the tendency to attract attention because of one’s exuberance, confidence, flair and sense of stylishness. Acclaimed choreographer Candice Johnstone plans to do exactly that by showcasing her ballet and contemporary studio at the Port Elizabeth Opera House on 8 and 9 June. “The Dance Academy’s performances will highlight a fresh approach to dance, celebrate the freedom of movement and incorporate all the things we love about South Africa,” said Johnstone. “The production will be pertinent to our contemporary country but relates to our roots and the place we call …

Is it Philanthropy or Giving that achieves lasting social change?

MyPE Logo

There’s a widely held belief that philanthropy is the same thing as charity. It’s an understandable misperception because while the purpose of charitable giving is primarily to alleviate the suffering caused by social problems; philanthropy works mainly to address and reverse the cause of that suffering. Deblina Rout, well-known author on Letsendorse.com states that, “It is important to note that philanthropy is noticeably different from charity, because charity focuses on eliminating the suffering caused by social problems, while philanthropy focuses on eliminating social …
