Keiskammahoek and Grahamstown residents fed-up

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The most recent outbreak of violent service delivery protests in Keiskammahoek and Grahamstown underlines the fact that Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle and the uncaring ANC government are not up to the task of effectively running the province. On Monday hundreds of members of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) used burning tyres and bricks to blockade the town’s main road because of service delivery issues including bad roads and a lack of housing and proper health care. The first of these protests took place a month ago and led to the shooting …

Cold Water thrown on Solar Water Heater programme

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Department of Energy (DOE) has cut the budget for its Solar Water Heater (SWH) programme from R394 million last year to zero in the 2018/19 financial year. The DOE’s Annual Performance Plan (APP) stated that since the programme was moved back from Eskom, over 80 000 units have been manufactured. One of the goals set out in the APP is to provide a further 20 000 households per year with non-grid (mainly solar) electrification and 57 000 solar water heaters are expected to be manufactured over the medium-term. However, no progress has been registered in respect of the last …

65 Year Old Patient Instructed to Urinate in a Blanket

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE I have submitted questions to the MEC for Health, Dr Phumza Dyantyi, regarding the maltreatment of Mr Donovan Nolan who was admitted to the Dora Nginza Hospital on 24 February 2018. On the day that he arrived at the Hospital, Mr Nolan was transferred to a steel trolley without a mattress, blanket or pillow. The sides of the trolley were broken, cardboard was used for shoulder support and old used bandages were used to reattach the dangling steel supports on the trolley. The following morning, staff only attended to the patient at around 11:00. He was subsequently sent for …
