Madibaz have a last throw of the dice

MyPE Logo

Madibaz have a last throw of the dice: The FNB Madibaz rugby team are fired up for one final throw of the dice when they play their last league game in the Varsity Cup this year in Pretoria on Monday. Up against UP-Tuks, Nelson Mandela University captain Riaan Esterhuizen’s outfit know that this is their last chance to salvage something from the season. Without a win in seven matches, Madibaz find themselves at the bottom of the log, but they could still avoid automatic relegation to the Varsity Shield if they pull off victory on Monday. They are three points behind Central University of …

NMB residents requested to lobby opposition to not hand City back to the ANC

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE   The time has come for the people of the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) to raise their voices and lobby all councillors in the municipal council to not hand the City back to the corrupt and ineffective African National Congress (ANC).   The people of NMB decisively rejected the corrupt ANC at the ballot box during the 2016 local government elections with 59.1% of voters choosing to vote for other political parties. They made it clear, through their vote, that they wanted total change and a new government.   The coalition government is making continued progress in …

“We’re on the road to nowhere, come on inside!” Whenever I see a railway line the Talking Heads song ‘Road to Nowhere’ from their 1985 album, Little Creatures, pops into my head. Can we trust real estate predictions?

Knowing what’s on the horizon is the key to a successful investment, but accurately predicting the future in any industry is a complicated affair. According to Schalk van der Merwe, franchisee for the Rawson Properties Helderberg Group, this is particularly true in real estate – predictions are far from certain and should always be taken in context with their source. “As real estate agents, we often get asked questions like ‘How is the market doing?’, ‘Is now a good time to buy or sell?’ and ‘I read this prediction, what do you think?’,” says van der Merwe. “Depending on the agent, the …

6 Steps to take when a loved one has passed on

MyPE Logo

It’s human nature not to want to think about death – your own or that of a loved one. But the consequence of not preparing for this inevitable part of life can be devastating for those left behind when a family member passes away. “Very few people have their estate planning in order or the right executor appointed. When they pass away, the people they leave behind are faced with the dual challenge of coping with bereavement while trying to make sense of a very complex estate administration process for which they are entirely unprepared,” says Johan Strydom, FNB Fiduciary Specialist. He …

An alternative way to ‘finance’ property

Islamic banking offers an alternative to a business or individual looking to buy property, and it is open to anyone to make use of. “Property finance, in the traditional sense, is essentially the granting of a loan to a client for the purchase of a property. This loan needs to be paid back with interest over the term of the loan arrangement. The difference with Islamic property finance is that it is based on a concept called Diminishing Musharaka,” says Amman Muhammad, CEO of FNB Islamic Banking. Diminishing Musharaka means that the bank and the client enter into a co-ownership agreement …
