As the commemoration to mark the 28th anniversary of the release from prison of Former President Nelson Mandela continued on Sunday, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has announced that it will issue a set of commemorative bank notes to honour the former statesman’s centenary. Contractor Appointed to Salvage Hobie Beach Grounded Vessel

In a statement released today the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) have confirmed the incident at Hobie Beach where vessel F/V Alley Cat ran aground. All authorities have been notified and have responded accordingly. At this stage, the vessel owner has confirmed that a contractor has been appointed to manage the necessary salvage arrangements. TNPA can also confirm that there has been no injuries or pollution reported. An emergency response team is on standby to assist should the need arise. Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander, said: At 01h51, Sunday, 11th February, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated following eye-witness reports of a fishing boat run aground at Main Beach, Port Elizabeth, by Hobie Beach. The sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski IV was launched and NSRI crew responded directly to the scene. The SA Police Services, a Police Dive Unit, and EC Government Health EMS responded.
