Motor-manufacturing giant Volkswagen South Africa walked away with top honours in the inaugural Top 50 Award, a Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality incentive initiative to recognize excellence, at a ceremony in Newton Park today. VWSA, a top investor, employer and exporter in the region over a number of years, just tipped pharmaceutical company Aspen for the top spot. Emfuleni Resorts today outlined its proposal to develop a R1.3-billion mixed use development on currently under-utilised land in the Boardwalk Precinct in Port Elizabeth. The Boardwalk Mall would include a retail mall, a multi-purpose events venue, entertainment offerings and corporate offices. For the past three decades, scientists have maintained that the sea was hot when life first began on Earth some 3,5 billion years ago – somewhere between a scorching 30 and 80?C. But at the same time, research has shown that the sun was much less intense, generating about 25% less heat than it does today. According to the inaugural Eastern Cape Annual Tourism Barometer 2015, South African travellers took 3.2 million trips to the Eastern Cape, spending an estimated R3 billion in total direct value in 2014 says the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT). This number was up by 1.2 million trips in comparison to 2013 and means that domestic tourism is on the rise in the Eastern Cape.
