NMMU watches over Baratz Flotsam

MyPE Logo

NMMU is visible from the wreck site of the Baratz - an east wind will more than likely cause the diesel plume to 'beach' and, if it is pushed towards the Cape Recife Nature Reserve it could well cause harm to the millions of abalone that have been seeded in the area. Silke and Rainer Schimpf (Sardine Run PE) took this photograph the day after the sinking of the Crayfishing boat Baratz off of Cape Recife. At 14h00, Thursday, 26th November, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for urgent assistance from the 29 …

Warriors lose to tournament favourites

Warriors Cricket Logo

Mangaliso Mosehle smashed a career best 65 off 36 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes) to set up The Unlimited Titans for a 40-run bonus point victory over the Warriors in the second leg of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge double-header at St. George’s Park on Saturday to all but guarantee his franchise direct qualification to a home final. The Titans now have 30 points from 8 matches and can technically still be overhauled by the Cape Cobras but the latter would have to win all three their remaining matches which are all away from home with a bonus point and hope the Titans come unstuck in their …

Right Catches at the Right Time for Elmar and Anton

MyPE Logo

The double-header at St George's Park on 28 November 2015 will forever remain special for two cricket fans as they found themselves in the right place at the right time, and caught their share of R1-million in the ever popular RAM SLAM Catch A Million competition. The first match saw the Sunfoil Dolphins challenge the VKB Knights. Months from now, 22-year-old Elmar Landman probably will not recall who won that match, all he'll remember is securing the catch of his lifetime. The Port Elizabeth resident said he was positioned near the side screen when the ball came his way. "I remember …

Knights thrash Dolphins

Knights Cricket Logo

The Knights handed out an eight-wicket bonus point thrashing to the Sunfoil Dolphins with 7 overs to spare in the opening match of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge double-header at St. George's Park on Saturday. The second match featured the Warriors, the home side, against the log leaders, The Unlimited Titans. The Knights victory has major implications as the franchises head into the final rounds of qualification for the knock-out stages. The Knights now have 9 points and they and the Dolphins, who have 18 points but only one more league match to play, are the two teams so far who cannot …

Baratz Flotsam off Cape Recife

MyPE Logo

Underwater the scene is much worse as 27 tons of diesel mixes with sand making the visibility less than zero and a plume reaches out to Bird Island and St Croix placing sea life in danger. Silke and Rainer Schimpf (Sardine Run PE) took this photograph the day after the sinking of the Crayfishing boat Baratz off of Cape Recife. At 14h00, Thursday, 26th November, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for urgent assistance from the 29 meter steel Crayfish boat Baratz reporting to be taking water with no motor power …
