Blasting on the R72 between Port Alfred and Fish River

The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify road users of travel delays on the R72, between Port Alfred and Fish River, due to blasting at the Shaw Park quarry, which will commence from 15h30 on Monday 16 November 2015. The road will be closed and motorists can expect a delay of approximately 15 to 30 minutes. The Shaw Park quarry is situated next to the R72, near the intersection of the R72 with the gravel road leading to Shaw Park. The quarry extends from the SANRAL kilometre markers 20,800 to 21,200. Motorists are requested to plan their trips accordingly …

Port Elizabeth - An off-duty police constable has died after being gunned down in front of her home in Motherwell on Thursday morning. Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said 36-year-old Constable Nomathamsanqa Ivy Tsitsi had just arrived at her residence in Mcelu Street, NU8, Motherwell at 06:00, after working the night shift. While South Africa's nine largest municipalities have shown an improvement in the management of their finances, some municipalities such as Johannesburg are still saddled with bad debt, mainly because of unfavourable economic conditions. The South African Revenue Service (SARS) branch offices will for the next two weeks extend their working hours to include Saturdays in anticipation of an increase in taxpayers, who will file their returns. The revenue service will extend working hours to cover Saturday, 14 November and Saturday, 21 November to assist taxpayers with their returns. South African consumers should brace themselves for a double blow on food prices from the countrywide drought and continued rand weakness, Grain SA warned. While South Africa was still recovering from a R12bn loss in maize production from last year, it is in the grip of a drought which could see it become a net importer of the crop for the first time in seven years, Grain SA CEO Jannie de Villiers told Fin24 on Wednesday.
