Plane crash occupants identified The five people on the plane that crashed at the East London Airport on Wednesday morning have been identified. Willem Nieuwenhuis, his wife, and three children were inside the plane at the time, close family friend Herman Pretorius told News24. Fraudsters are masquerading as software company Microsoft in a telephone scam targeted at tricking consumers and companies out of thousands of rands. “Many users” in South Africa are receiving phone calls from these fraudsters, according to Christopher Riley who is the chief executive of laptop and accessories retailer The Notebook Company. A runway is closed at East London airport following a plane crash there on Wednesday morning, the Airports Company of SA (Acsa) said. "Around 10:15 this (Wednesday) morning, a private aircraft crashed on the main runway of East London airport. Due to the incident, we had to temporarily close that runway but the second runway is open for business," spokesperson Colin Naidoo told News24. The number of initiates who have died in the Eastern Cape over the winter season has now risen to 20, the provincial health department said on Wednesday. Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said out of the 20 deaths, 12 have occurred in the OR Tambo district. Within the district itself, six took place in Nyandeni municipality, four in Mhlonhlo municipality, one in King Sabata Dalindyebo municipality, and one in Qaukeni municipality. Monthly home sales transferred in the various Deeds Offices throughout South Africa are averaging 22640 for the first six months of 2015 compared to the monthly average of 24140 homes transferred during 2014, a drop of 6.2% according to HomeBid, the low commission estate agency. Durban saw the biggest drop in activity levels of -10.7% followed by East London of -9.7%, Cape Town of -9.5%, the East Rand - 9.0% and Port Elizabeth at -7.9%.
