PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa – Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) is setting a new benchmark for embedded tyre cover with the launch of the free ContiSure Warranty, introduced from 1 November 2016 on all Continental-branded passenger, light commercial and 4×4 tyres.
The warranty is available on Continental tyres purchased from BestDrive, Tiger Wheel & Tyre, as well as Tyres & More outlets across South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland. It covers the tyres against accidental and irreparable damage as a result of a cut, bruise, impact break or puncture occurring on a public road.
“ContiSure is an embedded warranty offered completely free to customers across the Continental passenger, light commercial and 4×4 tyre range,” says Niel Langner, Marketing Manager for Continental Tyre SA.
“All risk associated with the ContiSure Warranty lies with Continental, which means that once the tyre is purchased and the warranty is activated, the customer enjoys ultimate peace of mind, knowing that accidental tyre damage is covered for a period two years.
“Unlike most competitor products which are only available on selected tyre ranges or come at additional cost to the consumer, this free warranty is a significant value-added benefit for Continental customers,” Langner states. “It reinforces our commitment to delivering the best quality products with superior performance, braking and overall driving safety.”
On purchasing a new Continental-branded tyre from a participating dealer, the customer will receive an original invoice, as well as the ContiSure Warranty brochure, which includes the contract agreement.
The customer is required to activate the ContiSure Warranty via the innovative ContiSure app, available for download via the App Store for Apple devices, or the Google Play Store for Android phones.
Alternately, the activation can also be completed on the ContiSure website (www.contisure.co.za), which contains all of the information relating to the warranty, as well as the fully policy terms and conditions.
During this simple, step-by-step activation process, all details regarding the tyre (including the date of sale, name and location of store, tyre size and article number) plus a photo of the invoice are captured on the system.
Additionally, the customer’s driver’s licence can be scanned in directly via a smartphone, and their contact details added. Next, the vehicle-related information is uploaded by scanning the car’s licence disc, and the vehicle mileage at the date of fitment is added. Once this process is completed, the customer receives a confirmation e-mail, and the activation status is displayed within the ContiSure app.
Thereafter, if a tyre is damaged within the first 30 days or 2 000 km after purchase, customers can proceed to any participating dealer with the damaged tyre, the vehicle it was fitted to, the original invoice and ContiSure Warranty brochure, as well as their identity document.
Dealer Claims Officials have been trained to assess the damage. If the tyre cannot be repaired, the customer receives a full credit towards the purchase of the same, or similar, new Continental tyre. The cover extends to standard Continental tyres, as well as its Self Supporting Runflat (SSR) tyres.
For incidents occurring after 30 days or 2 000 km, the value warranted is calculated by the dealer by measuring the remaining tread on the damaged tyre, minus the 1 mm minimum legal tread limit to determine the unused tread value, expressed as a percentage of the original tread depth. In turn, this percentage is used to calculate the credit value based on the original purchase price.
The customer is then entitled to use the credit towards the purchase of a new replacement Continental-branded tyre. Fitment, balancing, wheel alignment and other related services are not covered by the warranty and must be paid for by the vehicle owner.
The ContiSure Warranty does not extend to buses, caravans, trailers or commercial vehicles, or damage resulting from a collision, mechanical irregularities of the vehicle, vandalism or abuse. It is restricted to the vehicle on which the tyre was originally fitted, is not transferrable to a new owner, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
As with regular vehicle servicing, an integral part of the ContiSure Warranty is the required tread depth inspection and tyre check at a participating dealer every 10 000 km or annually, whichever comes first. For added convenience, this process can be recorded and a reminder set on the ContiSure app.
A dealer locator is also included in the app along with a raft of additional information such as a fitment guide, recommended tyre pressures for the customer’s specific vehicle, tyre basics, an inch-up guide, video tutorials for the activation process and a variety of other useful information.
