An exciting new addition to the Nelson Mandela Bay sports calendar hits the streets later this month with the introduction of the Business Night Relay by leading sports events organisers, Zports. Intended to draw positive attention to the North End Lake and Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium precinct, the Business Night Relay will take place on the last Wednesday evening of July, August and September and is open to teams of 5 runners or 3 walkers.
Backed by the Mandela Bay Development Agency and Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and being presented by Kingfisher FM, the business night relay is drawing great attention from local businesses who see this as not only a great way to get business exposure and networking, but also a fantastic team building opportunity for their staff. Over 100 teams are expected to enter the first event on the 27th July which kicks off at 6pm from the North End Lake powerboat club.
“PE boasts a wonderfully scenic North End Lake with the backdrop of the stadium. It’s been a year since we all enjoyed the World Cup and now it’s time to return to the stadium precinct and take part in a fun, team building event which is open to all.” said event organiser Mike Zoetmulder of Zports.
The route of the Business Night Relay Challenge will be a 4km lap around the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium and lake in Sydenham, starting from the Powerboat Club in Fettes Road. All team members will be required to complete one lap in relay-style format with the runners completing 5 laps and the walkers 3 laps. A 1hr 30min cut-off will ensure that all teams start their last lap by 7.30pm to ensure the challenge is completed by 8.15pm, as the last member of all teams who have not yet completed the course will be set off at this time.
The event promises to be as exciting for spectators as the company members dress up and go out of their way to boost team spirit and have fun. Great public viewing is ensured along the whole route, especially along Milner Avenue which runs around North End Lake. Bar and braai facilities are available for participants at the North End Lake Powerboat Club.
Online registration is encouraged on www.businessrelay.co.za, however manual entry forms can be collected from leading sports shops or by contacting Zports. Get your entry in soon as the organisers are already reserving the right to restrict entries if necessary.
Companies, educational institutions, schools and even social clubs or groups are invited to enter their teams into the Business Night Relay Challenge on the last Wednesday of July, August and/or September.
The Business Night Relay Challenge is a new team-based event for running teams of 5 runners or walking teams of 3 walkers. Each participant in the team will be required to complete one lap of the 4 kilometre course.
Social professionals and Team Building experts will be able to give positive encouragement to their teams from an area setup at the North End Lake Powerboat Club. Bar and braai facilities as well as an area to set up a corporate gazebo will be available.
