Canterbury Rugby’s loss is Eastern Province Rugby‘s gain. Current Canterbury Colts (U19) Head Coach, Brad Mooar, will join the EP Rugby coaching staff on 15 July as a Specialist Skills Coach.
As a skills and kicking specialist, Brad will be coach both the Currie Cup and Super Rugby sides.
This second appointment will free Robbie Kempson – rated the best scrum coach in South Africa by Alan Solomons – and his coaching staff to concentrate on the EP Academy side which is continuing to show promise, nurturing and grooming young talent for ascension into the senior sides.
Mooar (37) is married with 3 children and is a partner in a Christchurch law firm (Editor’s Notes: Maybe he and Solly can form a law practice here?). Mooar played at flyhalf for various Canterbury teams before turning to coaching and has been; a Performance Analyst for the Canterbury ITM Team, the Canterbuty Colts Assistant Coach, the Crusaders Development Resource Coach and the Canterbury Colts Head Coach.
Brad combined his legal and sporting experience and interests to head the Cavell Leitch sports law and management team. As an Accredited Agent of the New Zealand Rugby Players Association, Brad acts for sports people in the negotiation of contracts and management of their affairs.
Bard Mooar and Matt Sexton’s EP Rugby contracts will run concurrently and expire at the end of 2014.
Commenting on Brad Mooar’s appointment, EP Director of Rugby, Alan Solomons said; “It is acknowledged that Australia and New Zealand have the best skills specialist coaches” and “Canterbury is well known for breeding excellent Rugby People”. Solomons also said; “With Brad and Matt coming to EP Rugby we have a classic win-win situation for both parties”.
