The local ANC, UDM and other smaller parties have given one of President Ramaphosa’s cabinet ministers the middle finger.
By choosing not to meet with a delegation from the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), the illegitimate government in NMB is now more isolated, irrelevant and paranoid than ever.
An ANC Councillor even went as far as to allegedly refer to the delegation as “spies of the minister”.
National COGTA has established a task team, led by Deputy Director General, Mr Themba Fosi, to investigate the illegal continuation of a council meeting that took place on 27 August 2018.
The delegation flew into NMB on Friday and was shocked to hear, from a number of coalition government councillors, including myself, what had transpired in council that Monday.
We expect that a report will be prepared based on the findings of this task team and that the Minister will be briefed accordingly.
We support Cogta Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize’s intervention and urge the Minister to put an immediate end to this illegal occupation of City Hall.
In the meantime, the NMB coalition on Friday filed high court papers requesting a review of what we believe to have been a set of illegal decisions.
Athol Trollip is the real Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay. It is under Mayor Trollip’s Leadership that this Metro has started to see change.
Only the coalition government can take Nelson Mandela Bay forward.
