A lady walking her dog on the beach in the early morning had happened upon the dolphin beached.
The Marine Animal Stranding Network were activated and accompanied by a vet they kept the dolphin wet and assessed that the dolphin was healthy and could be released at sea.
NSRI were requested to assist to take the dolphin to sea to be released and our duty crew were activated.
The female Common Dolphin was brought to our sea rescue station and loaded onto the sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft, accompanied by members of Bayworld, and we transported the dolphin to 3 nautical miles South of Cape Recife and the dolphin was released into the sea and the dolphin appeared to swim off strongly and the Marine Animal Stranding Network are cautiously optimistic that the dolphin will survive.
The coastline will be monitored in the days ahead in case the dolphin beaches again.
