The 42nd annual Continental Milligan Vintage Trial will rally around the Garden Route from Monday 6 June, starting at the George Show grounds and proceeding through Grootbrak and Kleinbrak.
On Tuesday the rally will start from the same place and head to Eight Bells for Tea (tea usually starts at 10am), then over the Robinson pass towards Oudtshoorn. Wednesday sees the rally heading over the Outeniqua pass and on to Uniondale for Tea. On Thursday, the last day of the rally, the route will take the participants past Wilderness on the picturesque old Knysna Road past Saarveld, through Hartenbos and on to Herbestsdale for tea.
The oldest participant on the rally this year is Esra Martins (born July 1929) and the youngest is Michael Dugmore (born April 1992), already a regular on the rally. There are two international competitors, Dr Thorsten Reese – Germany (He is the navigator for Tubby Bennett, a Milligan Regular) and Bared van den Broek from Holland.
Piet Coetzee of Cradock has the distinction of having entered all 42 Milligans to date. He turned 80 in January and he will be at the Rally again this year.
“The Rally will travel over some of the most magnificent passes in the country, this year, and we expect the sight of the Vintage cars might also draw people to this beautiful part of the world. We are so proud of all our participants and consider ourselves good friends with every single one of them – young and old – locals and foreigners. We hope they all have a great time,” says Rene Olivier, spokesperson for Continental Tyre.
