Friends Association of the Art Museum AGM

The Friends of the Nelson Mandela Bay Museum are a Public Benefit Organisation serving the Nelson Mandela Art Museum in a non-profit manner in order to raise funds for the purpose of enlarging the art collection.

A cordial invitation is extended to the public to join The Friends of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum at 17:30 on Wednesday, 13 March for their Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The meeting will be followed at 18:00 by a lecture: “Tyne & Wear – Northern City Renaissance: Cultural transformation in Newcastle-Gateshead” presented by Dr Melanie Hillebrand.

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum was recently given the privilege of presenting an exhibition at the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead. As part of this project, Emma O’Brien, Simphiwe Nama and Dr Melanie Hillebrand visited Tyne & Wear in 2012, allowing them to see the UK Cultural Renaissance first hand. The transformation of Newcastle-Gateshead into a cutting-edge cultural hub following the closure of its heavy industries was accomplished in a remarkably short time, providing a practical and feasible model for our own city.

Details are as follows:
